Psychological support for eligible NDIS participants

Bilingual Psychology welcomes enquiries from National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participants seeking psychological services in Perth.

Psychology may be funded through an NDIS plan when the proposed support is disability-related, meets the applicable NDIS funding criteria and falls within the participant's approved funding arrangements.

Lin Tan is a registered psychologist with an endorsement in Organisational Psychology, offering psychological services in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.

Before arranging an appointment, Bilingual Psychology will need to review the relevant plan information and confirm whether the proposed services and funding arrangements are suitable.

Accessing Psychology Through the NDIS

The NDIS may fund certain psychology supports that help participants build or maintain functional capacity associated with their disability.

Depending on the participant's needs and approved plan, eligible psychological supports may focus on:

  • Developing strategies to manage disability-related challenges in everyday life.

  • Supporting emotional regulation and functional coping skills.

  • Improving independence and participation in daily activities.

  • Developing practical strategies for communication and social participation.

  • Building skills relevant to the participant's disability-related goals.

NDIS funding is not automatically available for all psychological services.

Clinical treatment for mental health conditions, including treatment primarily directed at symptoms of anxiety or depression, is generally the responsibility of the mainstream healthcare system rather than the NDIS.

The purpose of the proposed service, participant goals and applicable funding criteria must therefore be considered before commencing.

NDIS Funding Arrangements

Bilingual Psychology welcomes enquiries about psychology services under different NDIS funding arrangements.

These may include:

Self-Managed Participants

Participants who manage their own NDIS funding may enquire about eligible psychological supports and the relevant payment arrangements.

Please contact the practice to confirm which funding arrangements are currently accepted.

Psychological Support Available

Where appropriate and within Lin's professional scope, psychological services may involve assessment of the participant's functional concerns, identification of disability-related goals and development of relevant support strategies.

Services are considered individually to determine whether they are clinically appropriate and meet the participant's funding requirements.

Bilingual Psychology also recognises the importance of language and cultural background when discussing psychological concerns.

Consultations may be available in English, Mandarin or Cantonese.

What Information Do We Need Before Your Appointment?

To assess an NDIS enquiry, Bilingual Psychology may request:

  • Participant name and contact details.

  • NDIS participant number, where required.

  • Relevant plan dates and funding information.

  • The participant's disability-related goals.

  • Details of the proposed psychological support.

  • Plan manager or support coordinator contact information, where applicable.

  • Relevant referral or supporting documentation.

  • Any applicable service agreement or authorisation requirements.

Only information reasonably necessary for assessing and arranging the service should be provided through the agreed secure intake process.

NDIS Appointments & Billing

Before commencing services, Bilingual Psychology will review the proposed support and applicable funding arrangements.

Where services can proceed, appointment details, fees, billing arrangements and any service agreement requirements will be discussed.

Invoices and payments will be managed according to the accepted funding arrangement and applicable NDIS requirements.

Funding approval should be confirmed before assuming that consultation costs can be claimed through an NDIS plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use my NDIS funding to see a psychologist?

Possibly. The NDIS may fund psychology supports that address disability-related functional needs and meet the applicable funding criteria. It does not generally fund clinical treatment for mental health conditions.

Do I need a GP referral for NDIS psychology services?

A GP referral is not necessarily required for an NDIS-funded support. However, relevant documentation may be needed to assess suitability and funding arrangements.

Does Bilingual Psychology accept plan-managed participants?

Please contact the practice to confirm current acceptance of plan-managed, self-managed and NDIA-managed arrangements.

Can NDIS psychology consultations be provided online?

Telehealth may be available where suitable, and where the proposed service and funding arrangements permit online delivery.

Can I use Medicare and NDIS funding for the same consultation?

The same consultation cannot be funded twice. The appropriate funding pathway must be determined according to the purpose of the service and applicable program requirements.
